Hot Towers Formation – a Simple Plume Rise Model
نویسنده
چکیده
Hurricane intensification has been studied by scientists for decades and one phenomenon that appears to always accompany the intensification is the presence of hot towers of cumulous clouds that stretches to 15 km high, touching the top of the troposphere (Figure 1a &b). The hypothesis of Hot towers was first proposed in 1958 by Riehl and Malkus (Anthes, 1999), who wrote in conclusion from their observations that

Investigating the role of high-rise building shell elements in reducing energy consumption (case example: Isfahan Cascade doctors' residential towers)
Significant energy is used to provide and maintain environmental conditions for thermal comfort in high-rise residential buildings, which largely depends on the components of the shell design. Therefore, to achieve high amounts of energy savings in buildings, high-impact design measures must first be defined and then optimized. This study seeks to answer the question of how the components of th...

[1] The trace of the Snake River–Yellowstone hot spot is the world’s best example of a mantle plume that has been overridden by continental lithosphere. The ‘‘standard model’’ calls for the plume head to rise under northern Nevada and be forced northward to form basalts of the Columbia Plateau; subsequent movement of North America to the southwest over the plume tail created a hot spot trace on...
متن کاملEvolution of the Walvis Ridge-Rio Grande Rise Hot Spot System' Implications for African and South American Plate Motions Over Plumes
Crystallization ages of volcanic rocks, dredged or drilled from the Walvis Ridge (ten sites) and the Rio Grande Rise (one site), have been determined by the 40Ar/39Ar incremental heating technique. The fundamentally age-progressive distribution of these basement ages suggests a common hot spot source for volcanism on the island of Tristan da Cunha, along the Walvis Ridge and Rio Grande Rise, an...
متن کاملValidation of a Lagrangian Model Plume Rise Scheme against the Kincaid Data Set
INTRODUCTION Emissions from power station stacks and many other anthropogenic sources have substantial vertical velocities and are often hot compared with the surrounding ambient air. These momentum and buoyancy effects cause the emitted plume to rise, increasing the effective source height and, in the main, reducing maximum ground level concentrations. It follows that an accurate prediction of...
متن کاملBeta Regio, Venus: Evidence for uplift, rifting, and volcanism due to a mantle plume
Geophysical data have led to the interpretation that Beta Regio, a 2000×25000 km wide topographic rise with associated rifting and volcanism, formed due to the rise of a hot mantle diapir interpreted to be caused by a mantle plume. We have tested this hypothesis through detailed geologic mapping of the V-17 quadrangle, which includes a significant part of the Beta Regio rise, and reconnaissance...
